F.A.Q.s of the Tour
Tambopata is a protected rainforest region in the Amazon basin of southeastern Peru, near the town of Puerto Maldonado. It’s part of the Tambopata National Reserve, known for its amazing biodiversity, lush jungle landscapes, and opportunities to see wildlife in its natural habitat.
Tons! Tambopata is home to:
-
Macaws, parrots & toucans
-
Monkeys (howler, spider, capuchin)
-
Caimans (Amazon crocodiles)
-
Giant river otters
-
Tapirs, sloths, jaguars (rare but possible!)
-
Plus insects, frogs, butterflies, and more.
Many lodges include visits to clay licks, where macaws and parrots gather in colorful flocks.
Most people stay at a jungle lodge and go on guided nature walks, canoe trips, and night safaris. Popular activities include:
-
Visiting macaw clay licks
-
Exploring oxbow lakes by canoe
-
Climbing canopy towers for views above the rainforest
-
Taking night walks to spot nocturnal wildlife
-
Learning about Amazonian plants and Indigenous traditions
The dry season (May to October) is the best time — there’s less rain, and trails are easier to walk. The rainy season (November to April) is hotter and wetter, but the jungle is greener and still full of life. Just expect some mud and rain showers if you go then!
