F.A.Q.s of the Tour
Trujillo is a coastal city in northern Peru, known for its colonial charm, sunny weather, and amazing archaeological sites from pre-Inca civilizations like the Moche and Chimú. It’s often called the “City of Eternal Spring” thanks to its pleasant year-round climate.
The Lord of Sipán was a powerful Moche ruler whose tomb was discovered in 1987 — and it turned out to be one of the most important archaeological finds in the Americas. He was buried with incredible gold, silver, and jewelry, revealing how advanced and sophisticated the Moche civilization was over 1,700 years ago.
The museum is located in Lambayeque, a town near Chiclayo, which is about a 3–4 hour drive north of Trujillo. You can go by bus, private car, or with a guided tour that combines other archaeological stops like Túcume or Huaca Rajada (where the tomb was found).
Absolutely! It’s one of the best museums in Peru, often compared to a mini “Peruvian Louvre.” The exhibits are modern, beautifully presented, and include real artifacts, including gold ornaments, headdresses, ceramics, and more from the tomb. It offers a deep dive into the Moche world.
Lots! Trujillo is surrounded by stunning historical sites:
-
Chan Chan: The largest adobe city in the world (Chimú culture).
-
Huaca de la Luna & Huaca del Sol: Colorful, massive Moche temples with detailed murals.
-
Huanchaco Beach: Chill surf town famous for caballitos de totora (reed boats).
-
Cultural shows: Enjoy traditional marinera dancing and local festivals.
